FAQ

Relics

  • Overview
Relics affect different attributes of your Crew and Haven. Fight, claim, capture, and control Spires of Atlantis, Lost Temples, Blackbeard's Coves, or Cibola Aquaticus to acquire new Relics. Build a Skeleton Cave to store and use the Relics you find. Construct the Lighthouse and Whitmore & Co. to locate and capture different Relic Targets throughout the Map.

You can now sell Relics you don't want to use for Resources. In order to do so, go to the Skeleton Cave, select a Relic you would like to sell, and click the "Sell" button. Note that you cannot sell a temporary Relic that has been activated.
  • Effects
Relics can do several different things. Some offer Offensive bonuses, while others improve the Defensive attributes of various Units. Other Relics mainly improve the Production performance characteristics for your entire Haven (resource production, Defense bonuses, etc.)

To use a Relic, place it into any open Activation slot on the Activation Board at your Skeleton Cave. You have 6 Activation Slots in total, and can use no more than two Relics of the same category simultaneously. For example: 2 Offensive Relics, 2 Defensive, 2 Production.
  • Duration
Relics can be either Permanent or Temporary. Build a Skeleton Cave to use either type. You can disengage and drag activated Permanent Relics back to Chamber of Relics at any time for later use, but Temporary Relics are consumable items and are active for a fixed period of time – once activated, they can't be moved back to the Chamber of Relics. If you exchange one Activated Temporary Relic for a new one, the old one will automatically be deleted.
  • Power
Relics are categorized as either Basic or Advanced based on their relative strength and stability. Basic Relics possess small, but stable effects. Advanced Relics have both strong positive and negative effects.
  • Quality
The strength of a Relic's attributes is measured in proportion to its rarity (Common, Rare, Unique, Lost, and Legendary). The harder it is to find, the stronger its effect.
  • Relics claimed from Sea Battles
Fighting with other Havens or Targets is one way to acquire new Relics. Your Master at Arms will give you a briefing after each Battle. If there is an exclamation point highlighted in blue next to the report instead of the normal red one, it means you have claimed a new Relic!

Open the report and read the description of your prize in the top window. You have a chance to claim a Relic regardless of the outcome of an engagement. Remember: In order to keep your new Relic you must go to your Skeleton Cave and either use it immediately or move it to your Chamber of Relics, or it will disappear in 48 hours. You can go there directly from your Master at Arms' report.
  • Relics recovered from Targets
The Spire of Atlantis, Lost Temple, Blackbeard's Cove, and Cibola Aquaticus are Targets where you can find Relics on the game Map. They basically function just like normal Targets. Capture and control one for at least 1 hour before trying to recover Relics. After one hour, you can try to detect a Relic by clicking the "Search" button.

The longer you hold a Relic Target, the higher your chances of successfully recovering a Relic with each attempt. You are allowed one search attempt per hour. Once you've successfully recovered a Relic, you will receive a report from your Merchant. Remember: In order to keep your new Relic you must go to your Skeleton Cave and either use it immediately, or move it to your Chamber of Relics or it will disappear in 48 hours. You can go there directly from the Merchant's report.
  • Relics at Targets
There are 4 types of Targets where Relics are hidden: Spire of Atlantis, Lost Temples, Blackbeard's Coves, and Cibola Aquaticus. Think of them as Targets that produce Relics. The type of Target determines the kind of Relic you may find there. (Common, Rare, Unique, Lost or Legendary). Keep in mind that each Relic Target functions for a fixed period of time - just like a regular Target.

Go to the Pirate Stronghold, Lighthouse or use the Relic Target menu on the Map to see the time remaining before the Relic Target expires. Every new Target of Relic that appears on the Map is unguarded until captured.
  • Relic Target Menu
Use the Relic Target menu on the Map to see the time remaining before the Relic Target expires, type of Relics it produces, its status (captured or unclaimed) and choose the type of action you wish.
  • Scouting Relic Targets
You will need to build Whitmore & Co. and Dutchman's Hangar in your Haven to begin Scouting Relic Targets. Select "Scout" from the Relic Target menu on the Map, then select the number of Flying Dutchmen you wish to send. If you scout the Target successfully you will see all occupying enemy units, including any of the Enemy's reinforcements. Once you have captured a Target, remember to reinforce it with as many Flying Dutchmen as possible to raise its Stealth Bonus.
  • Capturing Relic Targets
You must build Whitmore & Co. before you can capture your first Relic Target. Select Capture from the Relic Target menu on the Map and assemble a force strong enough to claim it. Once you've captured the Target go to your Pirate Stronghold, and open the 'Targets' tab to view its attributes. Starting immediately from when you Capture the site, you'll notice a progress bar indicating the amount of time you have maintained control of this Target.

You must hold it for at least one hour before you can begin attempting to salvage Relics. The longer you hold the Target, the higher the probability of successfully recovering a Relic for each attempt. You are only permitted one attempt per hour - and be patient, you may not immediately find the Relic you were searching for.

Every time a Target is claimed, the one hour waiting period and occupation progress bar is reset - but the time remaining until the Target submerges into the Sea remains in effect. Ex: If you were to claim a Target 4 days into its 7 day lifetime, you would still have only 3 days remaining in which to exploit it.

Remember to Send Defensive Crew to recently captured Targets to ensure that it remains under your control. Remember: just like any Target, you can attack Relic Targets currently captured by your Shipmates. This is an extremely effective way of breaking Accords.
  • Reinforcing Relic Targets
Research the "Order of Battle" discovery and build a Pirate Stronghold to begin receiving Reinforcements sent by other captains. Select this action from the Relic Target Menu, assemble your Reinforcements and send them to the Target you wish to Reinforce. You don't gain access to Relics found at Targets captured by your Shipmates just because you have Reinforcements garrisoned there.

To review Reinforcements other captains have sent you, go to your Pirate Stronghold, open the 'Targets' tab and click the green arrow. You will see the location of all Friendly Reinforcements in the drop down menu. To control the reinforcements you have sent to other captains, go to the Pirate Stronghold, open the 'Garrisons' tab and select the 'Targets' filter.
  • Skeleton Cave
You must build the Skeleton Cave in order to use and store Relics. All Relics you gain are stored in the Ship's Hold for 48 hours before being lost for ever. To save a Relic, drag it from the Ship's Hold to the Chamber of Relics. Invite Friends or use Rubies to open up extra slots in the Chamber of Relics and increase the Chamber's storage capacity. To view a Relic's attributes, simply place your cursor over it. To use any Temporary or Permanent Relic, place it into any open gilded Slot and click 'Activate'. Temporary Relics can only be activated once. After activation, they can't be moved back to your Chamer of Relics! You can view information about currently activated Relics from the Stats Window.

  • Lighthouse
You need to build a Lighthouse in order to detect new Relic Targets. Lighthouse gives you info about:

    - new and unclaimed Targets within 500 miles on the map
    - Relic type that can be recovered at the Target
    - Target action period
    - Target's owner

Upgrade your Lighthouse to increase its range so you can find additional Targets before your enemy does.

    1. Go to your Haven.
    2. Click the "Construction" button.
    3. Open the "Command" tab and select the Lighthouse.
    4. Select an area inside your Haven and start building.
  • Pirate Stronghold
To control a Relic Target from the Pirate Stronghold, you must first capture it on the Map. Once you've captured one, go to the Pirate Stronghold and open the "Targets" tab to view information on:

    - Relic Target lifetime
    - Class of Relics that can be found at the Target
    - Time remaining until next recover attempt
    - time remaining until Relic recovery may begin
    - Number and type of Pirates currently occupying the Target

Once you've captured a Relic Target, its progress bar will begin filling up. You can search for Relics only once each hour. If you click "Search" there is a chance that you may not find the Relic you need, or even any Relic at all. Control your Relic Target as long as possible. The longer you maintain control, the higher your chances of finding a Relic on each attempt. You must click the "Search" button to recover Relics. It takes some time to ship Relics from the Target back to your Haven. You will receive a report from your Merchant once it has safely reached Ship's Hold.

To review Reinforcements other Captains have sent to your Target, go to your Pirate Stronghold, open the "Targets" tab and click the arrow. You will see the location of all Friendly Reinforcements in the drop down menu. To control the Reinforcements you have sent to other Captains' Targets, go to the Pirate Stronghold, open the "Garrisons" tab and select the "Targets" filter.
  • Counselors' Reports
You can get information about you and your Shipmates' Targets in your Master at Arms' reports. The Merchant will inform you when Relics are shipped to your Haven.
